Search Start Up
Search Consultant Jan Greenwood met with the Search Committee Chair Ed Bersoff and members of the Committee on October 17, 2008, in an orientation and start-up session with the Committee. Steve Portch, Advisor to the Board of Visitors, was also present. The search process was discussed including outreach strategies. Also discussed were nominations, advertising, and formulation of a position description. Following the October 17 meeting, Drs. Greenwood and Portch had several meetings with stakeholders and constituencies affected by the search, and the results were summarized for the Committee.

At the direction of the Committee, advertisements were placed by Greenwood/Asher and Associates in the following publications:

Chronicle of Higher Education November 7 and 14
DIVERSE November 13
Hispanic Outlook November 17

Each of these advertisements included a posting in the respective on-line databases.

Market Feedback
Market feedback is good. There is widespread respect for the University, and many of the contacts commented on the significant increase in the University’s success, its prestige, and its standing among the nation’s research universities. No significant negatives were identified.

Individuals declining to pursue the opportunity most often cited their satisfaction in their current position and overriding family issues.
