From the Rector to the University and VCU Health System communities

September 17, 2008

Dear University and Health System Communities:

It is my pleasure to announce the membership of the Presidential Search Committee that will work with the Board of Visitors toward the appointment of VCU's fifth president. Dr. Ed Bersoff, immediate former Rector of the Board, will chair the committee, and I will serve ex-officio. Dr. Rosalyn S. Hobson, associate dean for graduate studies and associate professor of electrical engineering in the VCU School of Engineering, will serve as vice chair. There are seventeen members, that include five other members of the Board of Visitors, five faculty members, two staff members, two students, one alumnus and one member of a VCU foundation. The press release announcing the committee membership is below.

The committee members were selected from nominations provided by the Faculty Senate, the Staff Senate, and from the leadership of the other key stakeholders. I anticipate that a search firm will be identified by mid-October, and the Board and Presidential Search Committee will work with the Board's presidential search and transition adviser, Dr. Steve Portch.

I will keep the university and health system communities informed about the details concerning the remaining open forums that will be held in early October with Dr. Portch. I will also communicate by email when there are significant milestones in the search process.

I encourage you to keep in touch with the search through the presidential search Web site, http://www.presidentialsearch.vcu.edu. On the Web site you will find an easy and confidential way to write Dr. Bersoff and Dr. Portch.

Sincerely,
Tom Rosenthal, Rector
