Research centers
Two university research centers support the mission of VCU Life Sciences to advance knowledge and education in new fields like bioinformatics and environmental technology.

The Center for the Study of Biological Complexity has the broad mission to support research in integrative molecular, cellular and developmental biology. The CSBC will also focus on two specific research foci: 1) microbial genomics and pathogenesis; and 2) integrative developmental biology.

The Center for Environmental Studies attracts several multiyear grants from federal sponsors, including those on pesticides and human health, biohazards monitoring and blue infrastructure assessment. Other funded research for the year includes grants for environmental education, invasive species and lead exposure in children.
