Friends of VCU Life Sciences
VCU Life Sciences has developed initiatives in the areas of research, new curricula and public education to use and emphasize the interdisciplinary nature of the field, as well as its impact on the future understanding of life and its scientific complexities.

Currently, efforts are underway to enhance the Inger and Walter Rice Center for Environmental Life Sciences, based on its site plan established in fall 2001. Building upon the initiatives set forth by VCU Life Sciences, plans for the Rice Center are based on a set of guiding design principles that reinforce the identity of the Rice Center as an ecological field station that advances research, education and outreach programming. Other central initiatives to VCU Life Sciences include the Center for the Study of Biological Complexity. Current scholarship is underway with the recent implementation of undergraduate and graduate programs in bioinformatics as well as a summer workshop for undergraduate students — the Bioengineering and Bioinformatics Summer Institute. The center calls upon the support of the friends of VCU Life Sciences to further enhance its research facilities as well as its teaching and research resources.

Significant partnerships that will build on the existing strengths of Virginia Commonwealth University and other academic, governmental and private organizations are currently forming.
