Welcome to VCU Life Sciences!
Life sciences is the new intellectual revolution of the 21st century. It is not a single discipline but an interdisciplinary approach to studying the complexities of life, whether a molecule, an organism, a disease or an ecosystem.

What makes life tick? Answering that question are immunologists, biologists, geneticists, chemists, physician/scientists, ecologists and many more researchers participating in a breathtaking scope of scientific exploration, such as we have seen in the sequencing of the human genome.

This new method of looking at life has tremendous implications for how we educate students for the new careers emerging from this intellectual revolution and for the kind of research we pursue. It also requires that higher education do more to engage the public in a dialogue about the new discoveries emerging from this new scientific approach.

In a nutshell, that is what VCU Life Sciences is all about. And we are at the forefront of universities nationally in developing programs encompassing this mission, with a unique focus on undergraduate learning. By bringing our top researchers from the Monroe Park Campus and the MCV Campus together, we are not only leading the way in the discoveries of the 21st century but also integrating our undergraduate students — beginning at the freshman level — into the fabric of a national doctoral, research university.

Join the life-sciences era at Virginia Commonwealth University!
It will be the experience of a lifetime.
