  • Educating the health-care professionals of tomorrow.
  • Advancing the generation, dissemination, and application of biomedical research.
  • Improving the health of the communities we serve.
  • Maintaining standards of care that are patient-centered and based on best practices.
  • Becoming a "magnet" health system for recruiting the best health-care workforce, with an emphasis on diversity that is reflective of our community.

Supporting the University

The VCU Health System is committed to supporting Virginia Commonwealth University as a model of the university of the 21st century by:

  • Collaborating with VCU and the Virginia Biotechnology Research Park to stimulate the commercialization of biomedical and clinical discoveries to produce diagnostic and therapeutic products that will improve individual and community health. At full development, the Research Park will consist of 1.5 million square feet of research and office space over 34 acres adjacent to the VCU Health System. It will employ more than 3,000 scientists, engineers, health-care professionals, and technical personnel.
  • Providing clinical support for the mission and goals of VCU's interdisciplinary institutes and centers, including the Clinical Research Center for Periodontal Disease, the HIV/AIDS Center, the Institute for Clinical Trials, the Institute for Drug and Alcohol Studies, the Institute for Outcomes Research, the Institute for Structural Biology and Drug Discovery, the Institute for Women's Health, the Philips Institute for Oral and Craniofacial Molecular Biology, and the Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics.
  • Assuming a central role in the development of VCU Life Sciences, a University-wide program integrating physicians and faculty from the Health System and the University with undergraduate and graduate programs, including the sciences, humanities, biomedical engineering, biomedicine, biotechnology, telemedicine, public policy, education, and business, in a comprehensive approach to undergraduate, graduate, and professional education and research in the study of biological complexity.
