VCU Health System - Bridging the past and the future

Bringing it all together

MCV Hospitals, MCV Physicians, and the clinical functions of the VCU School of Medicine are combined into a single, smooth-functioning, fiscally sound, and structurally nimble organization in order to:

  • Strengthen our ability to compete effectively in the health-care marketplace, remain economically viable, and ensure physician-guided, quality clinical practice.
  • Help us protect our commitment to medical education, research, and clinical care, including providing indigent care to Virginia's citizens.
  • Create an integrated management system — with a single CEO and one budget — to improve our ability to make timely decisions and respond effectively to the demands of the health-care marketplace.
  • Combine all the institutional and professional sectors of the health system — including clinical service and support — within a unified governance system.

Making caring visible

  • Continuum of care: design a seamless system to manage and deliver the highest quality and most efficient care.

  • Human resources: strive to remain competitive with recruitment and retention.
  • Customer service: set standards to serve internal and external customers.
  • Uninsured HMO: develop an infrastructure to better manage care and costs.
  • Revenue: stabilize and strengthen the bottom line.
  • Ambulatory care: reorganize and consolidate clinic management and structure.
  • Efficiency: make the most of our limited resources.
