Discovery of a vaccine against Cryptospiridium parvum using genome sequence

Emily Colby, 2:45 pm

Recent advancements in genomics research has made it possible for us to gain a new perspective on vaccinology. A new method - referred to as "reverse vaccinology" - dramatically reduces the amount of time it takes - and increase the possibility of success - in developing vaccines. From a pathogen's genetic sequence, specific proteins can be selected for as vaccine candidates using computational tools. I will be discussing this method in conjunction with the parasite Cryptosporidium parvum and the bacterium Streptococcus sanguis.
