How will you and your BBSI mentor find each other?

Step 1: Exploration (especially by Monday, May 10)

  • Go to BBSI faculty web sites.
  • Go to faculty web sites linked from the original site (or just explore)
  • Read publications that might be listed.
  • Consult with your home mentor.
  • Contact BBSI faculty to discuss possibilities of projects (or just to schmooze).
  • Solicit material (e.g. articles, grant proposals, etc.) that will help you understand what actually goes on in labs you are considering.
  • Read. Read more. Discuss more with your mentor.
  • Complete What We Need to Know Soon by Monday, May 11, providing your thoughts on the matter.

Step 2: BBSI Opening Symposium (Wednesday/Thursday, June 2-3)
The first full days of the Institute will be largely devoted to the Opening Symposium, at which time BBSI faculty will present ongoing projects in their labs that you might wish to join. There will also be time for informal discussion with faculty and others.

Step 3: Selection (Friday, May 4)
You will fill out a questionnaire, giving your three ranked choices for BBSI mentor. By noon, the collected questionnaires will have been digested and people distributed to mentors to maximize everyone's wishes. You will meet with your mentors the same day and begin work on your project proposal.
