In other giving news …

Many corporations and foundations have been extremely generous to the Campaign for VCU. The following is a list of some recent gifts.

  • The Lipman Foundation has pledged $250,000 to help with renovating the Pauley Heart Center’s cardiovascular research laboratories in Sanger Hall. Dr. Rakesh Kukreja’s lab will be named in honor of Ms. Jeanette Lipman in appreciation of her many years of support.

  • In July, Boehringer Ingelheim Chemicals pledged $100,000 to establish the Boehringer Ingelheim Chemicals Inc. Scholarship Fund in the School of Engineering.

  • Once again, Genworth Financial has proven its commitment to helping inner-city children through mentoring and teaching of life skills. Genworth Foundation made a $112,500 gift in July to VCU’s Lobs and Lessons program.

  • To mark the 50th anniversary of the commercialization of the pressurized metered dose inhaler (MDI), which revolutionized the treatment of respiratory illness, and to celebrate and recognize the foundational work of Mr. Charles G. Thiel, the VCU School of Pharmacy has created the Charles G. Thiel Award for Outstanding Research and Discovery in Respiratory Drug Delivery. The lead gift of $100,000 to establish this fund was made by 3M Drug Delivery Systems in August. Thiel invented the MDI at Riker Labs, which is now 3M, 50 years ago. The Charles G. Thiel award will be presented at each biennial Respiratory Drug Delivery Conference held in the U.S. and will be given to scientists who have pioneered significant developments in the science and technologies surrounding respiratory drug delivery. The conference is coordinated by the School of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmaceutics.

  • The Nunnally Charitable Trust has contributed $250,000 to support The Faculty Excellence in Pediatric Dentistry Fund in the School of Dentistry’s Department of Pediatric Dentistry. The fund is designed to help ensure that the school can attract and retain exceptional faculty members by rewarding outstanding work. These faculty members in turn help train future pediatric dental associates to care for the oral health of children.
