Virginia Commonwealth University's Medical College of Virginia Hospitals boasts the region's finest center for neurosciences. A nationally recognized group of clinicians offers patients expert treatment for neurological and neurobehavioral disorders. The Neurosciences Center excels in the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions in addition to having expertise in clinical research and education.

The Neurosciences Center is composed of the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, anesthesia's pain management and representatives from neuroradiology, neuropathology, biochemistry, pharmacology and the basic sciences. The Center is a coalition of individuals and programs with established records of excellence in their respective fields. Specific programs include: Epilepsy, Brain and Spinal Cord Injury, Back and Spine, Stroke, Geriatric Psychiatry, and the Neurosciences Center for Children.

The Neurosciences Center is also a recognized leader in clinical research. The Center not only conducts research, it facilitates the transfer of research results to patient treatment. Physicians consistently receive funding for research in the areas of neuroimaging, neurochemistry, and molecular neurobiology. The Center also offers a core neurosciences curriculum for residents and graduate students.
