The VCU Department of Radiation Oncology at Hanover Medical Park

Part of the Massey Cancer Center.

Introducing the first radiation therapy facility in Hanover County, where patients are given the most advanced treatment options in an emotionally supportive setting. The facility complements existing oncology services at Richmond Memorial Hospital. It also enables patients to take advantage of new treatment regimens, clinical trials, and multispecialty clinics at MCV's Massey Cancer Center. The multispecialty clinics give patients the benefit of treatment decisions made through joint consultation of faculty representing an array of clinical disciplines. Radiation oncology services at Hanover Medical Park are coordinated by Rupert Schmidt-Ullrich, M.D., chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology at MCV.

Professional Staff

The radiation oncologists at Hanover Medical Park are all board-certified faculty members of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals, with clinical responsibilities at MCV's Massey Cancer Center. On-site expertise is offered in all radiation oncology subspecialties as well as a thorough understanding of community health needs that comes from wide-ranging academic and clinical experience. Working with our physicians is a skilled team of health specialists that includes registered radiation therapists, nurses who are board-certified oncology specialists, medical physicists, and a dosimetrist.

Advanced Technology

The complex process of treatment planning and treatment delivery is supported by the advanced technology and technical capabilities of the Department of Radiation Oncology at MCV Hospitals. The department is equipped with a simulator for treatment planning and a versatile, state-of-the-art linear accelerator for treatment delivery.
