The Gumenick Suites

Quality-It's in the Details

Whether it's an unexpected event or a planned procedure, a visit to the hospital requires a good deal of coordination. That's where MCV Hospitals' Gumenick Suites can help. Built with a generous donation from longtime MCV supporters Sophia and Nathan Gumenick, the Gumenick Suites provide patients and their families with a highly coordinated, well appointed place to gather, recuperate, and revitalize themselves.

The result is the ultimate patient experience at MCV, offering the quality of comprehensive medical care with the luxury of world-class accommodations-the Gumenick Suites.

One Face, One Friend

Just as your primary doctor oversees your medical treatment, your primary nurse ensures that all tests, procedures, and instructions are understood clearly and administered smoothly.

Patients are greeted by their primary nurse upon arrival, and receive coordinated care from this same person throughout their stay. Primary nurses also serve as patient advocates by relaying information, answering questions, and providing support.

This one to one relationship enables patients to develop a special bond with their primary nurse, and feel comfortable knowing that a friend will be taking care of them. From explaining complex treatment plans to holding a hand, the Gumenick Suites' full-time staff of registered primary nurses are prepared to meet every patient need.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind

Designed with relaxation in mind, the Gumenick Suites use stylish architectural details to disguise the modern medical equipment located in each room. Using a series of ingenious panels and cabinetry, the Suites thoughtfully conceal the necessary items until required for use. The result is a fully-functional hospital room that rivals some of the most elegant five-star hotels.

Guests of Gumenick patients may also enjoy the beautiful accommodations and gourmet meals in an adjoining living area that includes an entertainment center and sofa bed. Family and friends are never restricted by formal visiting hours, and are welcome in the Suites at any time.

All the Comforts of Home, and More

With various rooms boasting extras like a Jacuzzi, remote controlled window blinds, and an extra television, patients are given every opportunity to rejuvenate themselves in style. Patients receive the daily newspaper with their breakfast each morning and are presented with a thick terry cloth bathrobe for their personal use both in the Suites and later at home.

Each of the Suites are equipped with a television, videocassette recorder, compact disc player, and stereo system. Adjoining rooms feature a self-service kitchenette, complete with a coffee maker, microwave oven, and mini-refrigerator stocked with sodas and juices.

The Suites also provide towels, special soaps, lotions, and shampoos in the elegantly appointed guest rooms for the benefit of the patient's overnight guests.

Taking Care of Business, or Pleasure

For some patients, its business as usual, even during a hospitalization. And visiting relatives often find it difficult to spend as much time as they'd like with their loved ones while keeping up with personal matters.

To help, the Gumenick Suites provides a communal day room where guests can conduct business meetings, hook up computers, or even host a private birthday party. Guests also are welcome to use the on-site fax machine, photocopier, or media library, which offers a wide assortment of popular compact discs and videocassettes for temporary use.

Gourmet Meals for a Healthy Appetite

At the Gumenick Suites, we understand how important and uplifting meals can be toward a strong, speedy recovery. That's why patients and their guests may order a variety of catered selections from the Suites' specially staffed gourmet kitchen.

Available throughout the day at the patient's request, meals are prepared to order and served on fine china with crystal and silver. Patients have the option of taking their meals and snacks in bed, or dining at a linen-covered table in their Suite with family and friends.

Planning your Visit

Admissions and transfers to the Gumenick Suites are as easy as talking with your primary care physician. Since the number of Suites is limited, advance reservations are requested when possible.

Patients from virtually all areas of the hospital are welcome to stay in the Gumenick Suites. Regardless of your treatment needs, the Gumenick Suites staff work hand-in-hand with other departments to ensure seamless, multidisciplinary care.
