Research: Perturbation of gene expression by drugs

BBSI project: Drug behavior

My lab uses bioinformatics to address the functions of proteins and the effects of drugs within the cell. Drugs exhibit a variety of interactions within a cell that can either be therapeutic or harmful. In most cases, these interactions are unknown and the mechanism of how a drug works is not understood. Data from many labs are collected and analyzed to 1) address the effects of drugs, 2) to predict the properties of drugs, and 3) to determine how drugs can be used in combination. Drugs in combination are intended to synergize for therapeutic effects and minimize side effects.
