VCU Bioinformatics and Bioengineering Summer Institute
Introduction to Programming/Mol Biol (Problem Session)

Part I: Basic information

Your name

Part II: Programming

I would like to point out that courses on programming generally last an entire semester. By the end of that semester, you'd probably still not expect to be able to do much in the way of serious bionoformatics programming. Our crash course lasts two days. If you are able to do anything remotely meaningful by that time, you might well count it as an outstanding victory.
1. With that in mind, how do you feel about your new found skills in BioBIKE?

2. How comfortable do you feel regarding the basic syntax of BioBIKE?

3. Are you comfortable with READING BioBIKE code?

4. Are you comfortable with WRITING BioBIKE code (within the narrow range of functions you're familiar with)?

5. Are you comfortable with the basic concepts surrounding MAPPING?

6. Are you comfortable with the basic concepts surrounding LOOPS?

7. Are you comfortable with the mechanics of setting up loops in BioBIKE?

8. What Study Questions from the notes on Mapping (SQ1 through SQ3) and Loops (SQ1 through SQ8) would you like us to discuss?

9. What problems on the Syntax problem set or Biological Problems would you like us to discuss?

10. What comments or concerns do you have regarding programming? Anything in particular we should go over?

Part III: Molecular Biology

1. What problems on the Molecular Biology problem set would you like us to discuss?
    (Consider especially B2, B9, B10, C2, C4, C6, D2, D4)

2. What comments or concerns do you have regarding molecular biology? Anything in particular we should go over?

Part IV: Miscellaneous

1. Do you feel comfortable downloading your website and making the necessary modifications?

2. Do you know what you need to know to make an exhaustive bibliography of your research topic (defined very tightly!)

3. Any problems on the communal problem set you'd like us to discuss?

4. Do you have a good idea what you will present next Tuesday at the Research Proposal Symposium? In brief, what's your project?

5. Comments, concerns, questions?
